A hankie is created by piercing a hole in the Bombyx Silkworm's cocoon, opening it from the hole and then stretching it out over a frame. This creates a square shaped ‘cobweb’ of fiber with a denser frilly edge of fibers. The squares can be easily pulled or teased out from the center to create a roving ready for spinning. They can also be used to add interest in silk paper making, embroidery and felting.
These hankies take dyes BEAUTIFULLY!! Use acid dyes, like Jacquard Acid dyes, to make these truly unique and your project one of a kind.

These are lovely and well prepared. I was so excited to find undyed hankies for sale. I dyed two sets of them, and they dyed well, no sticky spots to repel the color. I spun half, and just attenuated the other half to knit from the hankies. The value is very good, I think, if you want to dye your own, or just spin a singles to ply and dye later. I really, really liked these!
